Chalk Talk: A Kindergarten Blog

The blog is well organized and full of resources from theme ideas, organization, classroom management tips and tricks, to classroom environment. She adds other teacher's blow that she really likes as well as her favorite books to read to her students. On September 14, 2014 the teacher shares that classroom management is key to being an effective teacher, to achieving student success, and to setting up a productive and efficient classroom environment.  She goes on to say that some of the fundamental basics are teacher preparation and organization, engaging lessons, building relationships, well-established routines and procedures for the students, and brain breaks or other movement instructional strategies. The examples she shares are very helpful. The pictures of the student’s doing their learning centers are clear and give many great ideas to add to a teacher’s lesson plans.

  1. Deana: Great site! I agree that she was very good at giving examples. I like a number of her ideas including using manipulatives to count words. I liked that she said, "Appreciate where your students are." She is acknowledging how important it is for us to prepare, provide for and accept the varying degrees of development that will cross our path and that we all need to be ready to do what we can to help each and every child be successful! Thanks for posting this great resource.

  2. Hello Deana,
You did a great job on this assignment. There were a few things that stood out to me on the Chalk Talk site. The section on classroom environment was full of such helpful information, and even better, a lot of pictures! I really liked how all boxes/storage containers were not just labeled, but had pictures on them as well. The classroom environment was visually stimulating for students, and for some reason, this tends to add some excitement or motivation to clean up and put things where they belong. It's almost like a game in itself. I like how the site in general was very well organized and looked "friendly." There were many topics listed that would be of help to any teacher. Great job!
